About Us

Mr and Mrs George HeadHead & Wheble, Funeral Directors, were founded in the early part of the 20th century with the aim of advising friends, relatives and associates at a difficult and emotional time, and helping them give their loved ones a dignified and appropriate funeral.

From these early beginnings, the family business grew year after year as families, helped by the partners recommended their services to others. Our founder, George Head, established his Funeral Service in 1926 at la Oxford Road, Lansdowne, Bournemouth where the present generations continue to this day.

In 1943, George Head formed a partnership with another existing Funeral Director, Charles Wheble. Both partners, supported by their wives, were leading lights in their respective churches.

Mr and Mrs Philip HeadIn 1946, following his service in the Royal Navy, Philip Head entered the family business and joined his father ably supported and encouraged by his wife Esme. Continuity so important in the Funeral business, is maintained now through the third generation by Simon Head, grandson of our founder, who joined Head & Wheble 1992.

With his wife, Catherine, and their two young sons, James and Robert, the strong family influence that surrounds a traditional family firm, is retained.

Since the early years, attitudes towards death and what is expected of a Funeral Director have changed However, the Head family continue to serve the community by adopting the strong principals laid down by the partners today and applying them to their service provided the public with every modern facility.
